Ancient China
A few weeks back Taelon, Andrew, Charmaine and I teamed up to do a project on Ancient China and more specifically the Shang Dynasty. I decided in the beginning that I would do religion. I did research and I learned that they believed in many gods. There was one god who was the supreme leader like the CEO basically and his name was Shangdi. Shangdi was believed to be the king of the gods and at one point he was believed to be associated with heaven.
The people also believed then when any of their relative’s passed away that they became gods, and just like any other god they wanted people to pray to them. So everyone would pray to his or her dead family members.
These are the two of the big pieces of Ancient Chinese Religion. I thought that what I had about the religion was not enough so I decided to add clothing to the topics I was researching. I researched the type of clothes they had and they wore the ch’ang-p’ao, the pine-fu, and the shen-I. The pien-fu is a very old two piece clothing the first layer covers your knees and the second layer is a pants skirt. The chang-pao is one layer and goes from the shoulders to the ankles. The shen-I is two pieces sown together one to the knees and the one to the ankles. these were sown together with bone needles. Out of all of these the shen-I is most commonly worn. The main part for these was a sash. and due to the low amount of cloth there wasn’t a lot of stitching in the clothing.
